About Us

Our Background

Fiji Beekeepers Association (FBA) was formed in 1998. Like most small volunteer-run associations, we had almost no funding and very few leaders with professional skills or spare time. A priority for the beekeeping industry at that time was to address the high failure rate of new beekeepers, many of whom started beekeeping in government and foreign aid “give-away” programs to rural villages.

As our Mentor Program started to show successes, things changed. Our demonstrated success with the Mentor Program built confidence in our leadership and allowed us access to funding for other projects, primarily utilizing grants from the U.N.’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) administered through Pacific Farmer Organizations (PIFON), the U.S. Embassy in Suva, and Australia’s Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

The Fiji Beekeepers Association (FBA) is a non-profit organization established as a national body to represent the Fiji Beekeepers.
